Roofing Industry Fall Protection from A to Z

This program updates you on fall-protection systems and includes current OSHA state-plan requirements.
This one-day class also features hands-on equipment demonstrations and techniques for self-rescue and relief of suspension trauma. Don't miss this unique opportunity to stay current with the latest fall-protection rules!
After attending this program, students should be able to:
- Recognize fall hazards that are present during roofing installation and repair
- Use appropriate controls for fall hazards on low-slope and steep-slope roofing projects
- Identify strategies and techniques for rescue and self-rescue operations
Richard Trewyn
Rich joined NRCA in 2015. Before joining NRCA, he served as national safety director for Tecta America and began his career in 1996 with FJA Christiansen Roofing Companies in Milwaukee, Wisc.
Trewyn holds a degree in occupational safety and health from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater and brings extensive industry knowledge and expertise, supported by numerous safety certifications.
He is an OSHA-authorized trainer for 10- and 30-hour construction courses and an authorized CERTA trainer for torch-applied systems. He teaches a range of NRCA courses, including CERTA train-the-trainer, OSHA 10-hour, Foreman Management Training, and three fall protection classes, along with health and safety webinars.

The Roofing Alliance Construction Management Student Competition is a signature event at the International Roofing Expo—and one you won't want to miss. This premier competition brings together the nation's top construction management students as they tackle a real-world roofing project, demonstrating their technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and presentation skills before a panel of industry judges. This year's project features Silverado High School, with the top four or five finalist teams advancing to deliver live 15-minute presentations during the IRE in Las Vegas. Attendees are invited to stop by Room W211–W212 to watch the presentations, interact with the students, and see firsthand the exceptional talent preparing to enter our industry. Whether you're looking to recruit future employees, support workforce development, or simply witness the next generation of roofing leaders in action, this competition is an event you won't want to miss. Winning teams will be recognized during NRCA's Industry Awards and Reception.
NRCA Field Leadership Training, Level 1
- Date: Thursday, February 18, 2027

This one-day Field Leadership Training, Level 1 course focuses on leadership and management skills for field managers.
After attending this course, participants will be able to:
- Recognize and improve leadership and crew communication styles
- Enhance team productivity
- Implement conflict resolution tools to manage and prevent workplace conflicts
Jon Goodman
Jon, a roofing subject matter expert, has been with NRCA since February 2018. He attended Sonoma State University, graduating with a degree in industrial management.
Goodman worked for Hewlett-Packard in production management and from there, he went on to own a roofing contracting company. He also worked as a consultant for the National Center for Construction Education and Research where he assisted with the development of its roofing and solar installer curricula.
Goodman is NRCA’s subject matter expert and a ProCertification assessor. He helped develop and write training manuals for NRCA’s Training for Roof Application Careers program and is an instructor for various NRCA educational classes such as Roof Design Considerations, Roof Repair Maintenance, Foreman Leadership Training and Qualified Trainer Conference.
Please note: NRCA understands circumstances may arise that require you to cancel your registration. If you cancel up to 10 business days before an event, your registration fee will be refunded. If your cancellation is received 10 business days or less before an event, you may send another person in your place or receive a credit voucher that can be applied toward any NRCA University program during the next 12 months. Registrants who do not cancel before the seminar or do not attend are liable for the entire registration fee. All cancellations must be in writing. NRCA reserves the right to cancel any programs. If such a cancellation is necessary, registrants will be notified and an attempt will be made to reschedule or make alternative arrangements. Registrants will receive a full tuition refund for the program. NRCA is not responsible for other costs incurred. The registration fee is due and payable before the start of a seminar.
